League Champions!

The season got off to a slow start, with a 7 wicket loss to Waterford and two matches abandoned. It wasn’t until Round 4, the team finally y chalked down a victory with a 29 run victory over Kerry 4XI at home.  From there the team started to gather momentum, with an away victory over Harlequins, Kerry and Limerick at home. Another loss to Harlequins at home, meant that the league looked as if it had gone away from us. However, a surprise victory by Kerry over Limerick in Round 12 meant that the team still had a chance of topping the table we they won their remaining matches with bonus points. This they duly did, with a home victories against Waterford in Round 14 and Kerry in Round 17.

It was left to the last round of the season, between us and Limerick, where it was a winner take all. Limerick posted 111/9 off their 40 overs, but the strength in Lismore’s batting saw them reach 113/2 off 13.1 overs, leading to an 7 wicket victory.

In all over 25 players participated in the Division 3 league this season, and the team really improved as the season strengthened. Many of the players will step up to Division 2 next year. The club is starting to get some real strength in depth, and it is a positive sign for the future.
